Quantum computing stocks are blowing up … why?

I’ve noticed a lot of quantum computing stocks have skyrocketed recently—some going up 3x, 5x, even 10x in value. I can’t quite figure out why this is happening. Is it because they’ve made a breakthrough in how quantum computers work? Or maybe they’ve gotten some big funding to keep their research going?

Would love to hear from people who are following this more closely.

Quantum stocks are a superposition of being ridiculously overvalued and undervalued at the same time.

:joy::joy: A truly dignified yet undignified comment at the same time!

Same 95% who always trash Bitcoin, right? :joy:

@Quincy
Bitcoin and quantum computing stocks are kinda similar—both could be bubbles for people chasing hyper-growth investments.

Lol, that’s exactly the kind of phrase MLM folks love to throw around. You’re hilarious.

Quantum computing is still in the early stages with no widespread practical applications yet. The price changes are based on speculation about future potential. When new breakthroughs or updates come out, the market reacts much faster than regular investors can. Be cautious—it’s easy to get caught up in the hype.

@Sebastian
The irony is your investment might end up being claimed by the quantum companies themselves. Major conundrum!

You mean a major quantonundrum! :sweat_smile:

I’m 17, and I actually convinced my dad to invest a small amount in quantum stocks a couple of years ago. We made some profit, but now I worry these stocks are overpriced and future returns will be limited. I think I’ll invest some of my own money in university but only if prices come down to reasonable levels.

@Tobin
It’s tricky to separate whether you believe in the technology or if the price will actually grow. Most current expectations are already baked into the stock prices. To make big gains, you’d need unexpected positive news, which makes this a speculative investment. Be cautious!

@Sebastian
Good point. I read Benjamin Graham’s advice about keeping 10% of your investments for experimenting, so I think I’ll do that.

That’s a solid approach! 5-10% for fun investing is common advice. You’re young and already thinking ahead, so you’ll be just fine. Good luck!

@Sebastian
Thanks so much! My dad deserves a lot of credit for teaching me. Wishing you the best too!

Quantum stocks are riding the same hype wave as crypto. People are calling quantum computing the ‘crypto killer,’ so whenever crypto prices jump, so do quantum stocks. But just like crypto, this feels like a bubble. I sold mine at 5x profit and don’t regret it. I don’t think the current valuations are sustainable—real growth is still years away.

@Tavi
Totally wrong. Quantum stocks are rising because quantum computing is ready for commercial use. Companies like AWS already support quantum applications. This has nothing to do with crypto hype.

Lol, no. Quantum computing isn’t ready for mainstream use yet. Services like AWS Braket are still mostly for research and simulations.
