What’s the biggest loss you’ve taken in investing?

What’s your worst investing loss? Was it stocks, crypto, or something else? How much did you lose, and how did it make you feel? Did it change how you approach investing now?

Looking for some stories to learn from.

Lehman Brothers. It hit hard and took a while to recover. I learned to take financial advice on TV with a grain of salt. Also, I’ll never listen to Cramer again. It was my second stock ever.

I learned to avoid all the news. If it’s already on TV, you’ve missed the window.

@Ashby
Exactly this. Timing is everything, and by the time it’s public, it’s usually too late.

@Ashby
So how do you figure out what to invest in then?

Losing early really reshapes how you approach things. Now I stick to index funds and let others worry about calling the next big thing.

What was Cramer saying about Lehman back then? I wasn’t investing at the time.

@Channing
Back in summer 2008, he was hyping Lehman as a bargain after Bear Stearns went under. Then it all fell apart in September. That was the trigger for the crisis.

Better advice: just stop watching financial shows altogether.

Cramer knows a lot, but his advice is more entertainment than substance. Don’t take it too seriously.

Lost hundreds of thousands in ARK funds. I feel like I fell for the hype.

Same. ARKK was a small part of my portfolio, but it accounted for half my overall losses.

I cut my ARKW losses in 2022. I realized their strategy was basically ‘hope and pray.’

That’s one way to invest, I guess.

Those were supposed to be the next big thing, but wow, they tanked hard.

Should’ve sold when it was flying high.

The problem is most of us bought it when it was high.

Live and learn, right?

ARKK wiped out 40% of my portfolio. Never again.

Used Bitcoin in 2011 to buy stuff on the dark web. If only I had held on to it!
