What’s the best way to invest in GLP-1 drugs long term?

Looking into GLP-1 drugs for the long haul? If you think these things might happen in the next 10 years:

  • More people start using them as they get approved for new things and costs go down
  • Current big-name drugs go off-patent, and generics flood the market
  • A bunch of new products show up as competition heats up

Besides just buying the top names like LLY and NVO, how else would you invest here?

I’d short fast food and junk food companies, for sure.

Gyms too, oddly enough.

People still need gyms for building muscle though.

Folks on GLP-1 just want to lose weight; muscle gain isn’t their main goal.

What about knee and hip replacement makers?

Haha, yeah. Fast food giants are in for a rough decade. RIP Big Mac profits :hamburger::skull_and_crossbones:

Actually, you should bet on them going up. People might eat more often but just smaller portions since they can eat without gaining as much weight.

@Leo
You clearly don’t understand how GLP-1 works lol.

LOL, yeah. I know people on this stuff, and they barely eat anything now.

Nah, people will keep eating like normal and just take a pill. I’d bet on Domino’s, McDonald’s, Chipotle, etc.

That’s not really how GLP-1 works.

It’s mainly an appetite suppressant.

You’ll have 8 people splitting one Happy Meal.

People on this stuff are cutting back on fast food big time. Check out the forums for Wegovy users; they’re saying they skip a few burgers a week. This trend could really hit fast food sales hard if the drug prices keep dropping and more people go on it. But I don’t think McDonald’s and others are done—they could easily pivot to healthier options. For me, I’m playing it safe with index funds.

@Vesper
Same here. Used to pick stocks, but the results were always mixed. Now I just stick with the S&P 500 and let it ride.

Nah, soups.

Honestly? That’d be super uncomfortable for them if they tried.

I loaded up on VKTX today. Their new oral drug update sounds great, and I think it has good long-term potential for weight loss with fewer side effects.

EVOK announced that their nasal spray, Gimoti, for diabetic gastroparesis patients on GLP-1s cuts down emergency room visits a lot. Might be a good option for those dealing with gastroparesis on GLP-1.
