Start to Invest and starting to create my own business

Even though I am 35, I want to start investing. Before I lost my job, I had a 401(k) retirement account. I also want to start my own business with minimal investment. Is this feasible? Investing is new to me, and I’m currently reading Michele Cagan’s Investing 101.

A service business is always possible to launch and requires little to no capital. Your time is the largest investment.

It is unclear whether you currently have income.

If you do have a job, the general advice is to open a brokerage account and invest as much as possible in VOO. Continue investing aggressively, and even if the market dips shortly after you start, you’ll likely be well off in the long run.

If you don’t have a job, it is advisable to get one, as starting a business can be a long and challenging process. You’ll need some income to support yourself while the business develops, which is not guaranteed.

If you have a business idea, create a detailed business plan and work on it as much as possible. Secure your EIN, insurance, and other necessary permits, and start acquiring customers to get a solid foundation.

However, and I don’t mean to be harsh, it might be more beneficial for you to focus on something you enjoy and invest in AAPL stock rather than starting a business from scratch. Stocks represent ownership in a company, and it doesn’t matter what you do to earn the money for that investment. Of course, making as much money as possible is still important. That said, the world would be less innovative if everyone thought this way—you might have a groundbreaking business idea that could make a significant impact.

I did have 401k retirement

Then that plan is still associated with your account. You can request a Direct, Trustee-to-Trustee in kind transfer from the new trustee when you open a Trad IRA account.

What kind of company are you launching?

We started our business with $500 in the living room of our 1-bedroom, 1-bath apartment. Now, 14 years later, we have 6,000 square feet of space and are projected to gross $1.5 million, with a take-home of about $800,000.
