Those are some impressively bad results. What are the odds?

Lemonade really hurt me.

Yep, that stock left me sour too.

If you’d put the same amount into SPY in July 2021, you’d be up 39% (over 10% annualized).

With dividends reinvested, that would be about 45.7%. Check it out here.

You bought into a growth-focused service at the peak of a market bubble. If you’d bought certain stocks earlier (like SHOP), you’d be way up. But timing matters, and you bought in during a period of irrational highs.

I made good money on early picks like SHOP and NFLX, but recent years have seen way too many duds. Their quality has really gone downhill.

This is so true. Early MF was about finding a few big winners. They expanded way too much and it’s just not what it used to be.

They suggested Align at $1… I sold at $3. Now it’s over $200. Feels bad, man.

@Vince
I get it, I had AMD in 2015… that’d be worth a lot now.

@Vince
Wow, how many shares did you have?

I think around 100, but that was decades ago.

David Gardner’s average on Amazon was around 16 cents… insane when you look back now.

@Reese
Founders left a few years back. Leadership matters. I’ve done alright with them since ‘06, but I don’t buy everything they suggest.

David retired from stock-picking, but Tom’s still CEO.

@Reese
OKTA was a great recommendation. They also had Netflix at $19. You just have to pick selectively.

Out of ten picks, two might go x10 or x20, which can cover the losses.

@Reese
My biggest issue with them is they don’t address timing. They suggest holding forever, but when to buy matters too.

What service did you switch to?

@Reese
David Gardner’s picks were usually better. Now it feels like random guesses.

@Reese
I only go for stocks with a bit of flair. Netflix and Nvidia are great examples.
