I had shares in various tech and biotech stocks, and it started to weigh on me. I found myself constantly checking the market and worrying about potential losses in the long run.
Eventually, I got tired of the stress, so I sold everything for a small profit and invested all the money into VT. This choice has brought me peace of mind; I no longer feel the need to check stock prices daily. Even if the value fluctuates, I trust in VT’s long-term potential much more than I do with Nvidia or other individual tech stocks. I only keep about 5% of my investments in Hudson Technologies and AMD, while the remaining 95% is in VT.
I am considering cutting back on a few particular stocks.
Although I had previously been picking up Apple, I have nearly all of my investments in VTI. It has already increased by 80% and currently makes up around 10% of my portfolio.
Although I would not say I am anxious about it, I’ve been wondering when I should also redistribute it to VTI.
Absolutely. Diversifying can significantly reduce the stress of holding individual stocks. Are you feeling more comfortable with your investment decisions now?
I think that sounds correct. I took a similar action. I initially believed I was intelligent enough to purchase individual stocks. I’m not. I feel much better now that I’m only investing in index funds.
Well done. The majority of individuals, like myself, must lose a significant amount of money before they realize that this is what they should have done initially. This makes sticking with it even more difficult because there is also the temptation to get back the money that has been lost. You have put yourself in a situation where everyone wins.
I believe sector ETFs would have been a better choice. Instead of holding one blended fund or several individual companies, why not invest in multiple ETFs across different sectors for greater diversification?
